Commentaires: Translated from: Drouin volume III

The Jarret family, of ancient & authentic nobility, was established in Canada
with the two half-brothers, Francois Jarret de Vercheres and Andre Jarret de
Beauregard.

Francois Jarret de Vercheres joined the military & that is what brought him to
Canada in the position of Ensign of the Carignan Regiment.  Free  of his
military obligation, he settled in the region which would take his name:
Vercheres. He built a fort there (Castle Dangerous) which would become famous
because of the heroic defense by his daughter Madeleine de Vercheres, against
the Iroquois.  He died at Contrecoeur 26 Feb 1700.

Andre Jarret de Beauregard was also military, lieutenent in the Carignan
Regiment.  On 17 Aug 1674, Frontenac (Governor of New France) conceeded to him
"the small islands of Saint-Laurent which are nearby the Long Island belonging
to the Sieur de Vercheres, his brother".  The descendants of Andre Jarret de
Beauregard, who died in 1690, are numerous today. (He was known as the Sieur
de Beauregard)

* Both brothers were in the Contrecoeur Company  of the Carignan Regiment &
arrived in Canada 17 Aug 1665.
